The 49th Annual Colgate Women’s Games are heating up as competitors gear up for the semi-finals on Sunday, January 19th. Athletes of all ages, from elementary school students to women in the 30-Plus division, are now laser-focused on advancing to the season-ending finals on February 1st. This year’s grand showdown will take place at the Nike Track and Field Center at the Armory in Manhattan, drawing in both local talent and seasoned veterans.
Tickets for the finals are free, and those interested can reserve them online. For fans unable to make it to the venue, both the semi-finals and finals will be streamed live on armorytrack.org.
The second preliminary meet on January 5th saw fierce competition at the Armory. Athletes competed in various events, collecting points to secure their spots in the semi-finals. Once there, each athlete must choose a single event for the finals, intensifying the challenge.
Among the standouts is Colgate Women’s Games veteran Chante Moore from Philadelphia. Competing in the College/Open Division, Moore showcased her skills in the 200- and 400-meter dashes, securing her place in the semi-finals.
Sophia Grimmelbein, an 11-year-old from Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, also made waves. Coached by her mother and cheered on by her father, Sophia impressed in the Elementary B 400-meters and 800-meter run. Despite a tumble in the 800, she pushed through to finish third. Her sister, 16-year-old Felicia Grimmelbein, also advanced, placing third in the High School 55-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Another rising star, 13-year-old Charlet Livingston from Boston, broke the Colgate Women’s Games record in the Middle School Shot Put. She also leads in the Middle School High Jump, making her a strong contender for the finals. Her dedication is evident, with early morning commutes to New York reflecting her commitment.
Brooklyn’s own Promise Terry, who placed second in the high jump, has formed a friendship with Livingston through the competition. Both athletes are set to continue their journey on January 19th, aiming for spots in the finals.
The Colgate Women’s Games have long been a platform for nurturing young talent and fostering sportsmanship. This year’s competition continues that tradition, offering thrilling moments and inspiring stories of perseverance and camaraderie.
